Watsu® is an immersive water-based manual therapy that is performed in a heated hydrotherapy pool in which the practitioner guides and supports the recipient while floating with passive stretches and movements that are aided by the direction, buoyancy, support and motion of the water. Eva Watson Rolfing® in Toronto is primarily focused on delivery of Rolfing® services due to limited public access to suitable pools for Watsu® services.
Watsu® is a specialized form of aquatic manual therapy that is named after the merging of Water and Shiatsu. It was created in the 1980's at Harbin Hot Springs in N. California. Watsu® is unique because of the feeling of supported floating and cradling in the warm water. Recipients often experience profound relaxation and relief from physical, mental, and emotional pains and traumas during a Watsu® session, which recreates the environment of the womb and fosters a sense of possibility and rebirth.
Watsu® requires a heated pool at a certain size, depth and temperature. Only a very few dedicated private pools for hydrotherapy treatment exist in the GTA. For the time being, Watsu® is currently only being offered to individuals who have access to private pools in which they can control the depth and temperature of the pool. The pool must be at least 5 meters in both width and length, with water at a height of about 1 meter, and the temperature should be set to match the human body at 35-37 degrees Celsius. Slightly smaller pools may also be an option, but will limit the types of movements that can be performed.
A Watsu® session is typically one hour long. Final pricing will be quoted on request based on travel time, transit costs, pool rental costs, and other considerations. To learn more about Watsu®, check out Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watsu, or watch this YouTube video (posted from a different practitioner): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ma-C49hN8M
